- Mimi Wong Added August 03, 2017★ ★ ★ ★ ★Wholesome and humble. Just what my two toddlers needed. A beautiful autumn trip to Bilpin spent at the Shields Orchard. Lovely to meet Bill, Julie and Robyn. They were genuine, attentive and went out of their way to speak to us. Very kid friendly. They run an open day program for kids to plant potatoes and then email you when it's harvest time. I was recommended by a friend and I would do the same. I didn't get the opportunity to visit any other orchards so I can't comment on the size.
We picked pink ladies (granny smith also available) at $2.50/kg. I bought locally made apple cider vinegar $5 for 250ml.
There's a story behind every orchard but Bill's one is particularly special. Its worth a look if you're curious. He's philosophy towards knowing where your food comes with is one that I support.
